Palmerston Polocrosse Club - 30th Anniversary 2011

The Palmerston Polocrosse Club was formed in 1981. The club was originally named after Darwin’s new town - Palmerston.

The Palmerston Club had their first playing field at the Freds Pass Recreational Reserve and then moved to Robbie Robins Reserve in 1995 were the club grounds remain to date. Since moving, the club has been very successful and has one of the best playing grounds around.

The clubs history includes Pat Davidge and family joining the club in the earlier years and success from members such as Darren and Noel Hassall playing for Australia at Chinchilla in Queensland in 1988. Darren Hassall has also represented Australia on the New Zealand Tour in 1993 and has played and been coached by some of the greats of the game – Graeme Spackman and Maurice and Terry Donnelly. Darren has also picked up Best Horse & Rider Combination at the Australian Zones.

The club has members, both seniors and juniors that have represented the Northern Territory in all levels at state titles.

The Hassall family has a reputation for the most playing members at any one time. Today, members of the same family– of all ages - continue to play with the club. Currently it is our younger members who are excelling. Matt Deveraux is not only an exciting player but an accomplished Coach who was the Australian Assistant Under 16 Coach for the Test series against South Africa. Part of that Australian team was another young Palmerston player Jack Cooper who has proved himself to be a very accomplished player. Along with Grant Clarke and Jake Burgdorf, Jack represented the NT in Ballarat at the Nationals.  He was in our Under 16 team with Jake that was narrowly beaten in the final. Jack is now taking all before him at top level in WA.

Our club members are known for their efforts towards polocrosse in general and their willingness to work at the clubs carnivals. Palmerston has always had approximately 50 members, including playing and social. This season we have fielded 3 teams per carnival and look lik ehaving 4 teams for the Champs in August.

We are a family orientated club and pride ourselves in our players enjoying their sport and having fun, with a competitive streak to mix it with the best.
